Show Notes

James Podsiadly interviews Heath Younie (current Development Manager and SANFL Coach at the Adelaide Crows) about his coaching journey and some of the tools he uses to educate players.
Heath answers the following questions during the interview:
Why did you choose footy when you were a kid? Or was it another sport? – Interesting story
What made you happy when you played footy?
How did you learn the best when you played? How do you teach 45 different players?
How has being a dad helped your coaching?
What does “winning” look like in coaching?
How do you put yourself in the “players shoes”?
What’s the one thing that every coaching/sporting/ football environment needs to have to get the best out of people?
If you were coaching a community football team (junior or senior), what would be your top 3 priorities? Are they different to the elite?
Forwards are often the most talented in the side but also the most selfish. Do you have any advice on coaching selfish players who talk team but play selfish?
